Hi, my name is Sharon Casey and with the support of my husband, Mike, have been breeding Maine Coons for over 10 years.
Our love of Maine Coons started 16 years go, while visiting a local cat show we met a large cat with a soft gentle expression in his eyes, we were hooked straight away. We started to look for our own gentle giant and a year later, Dillon, entered our lives. We were warned one would not be enough and sure enough it has proved to be true.
After dabbling in showing our household pets, we decided to try showing pedigrees. Sadly, Dillon didn't enjoy showing so the search was on for a show neuter. A year later Minne arrived followed by Bobert two years later. Both Minnie and Bobert were wonderful show cats, enjoying travelling the country and all the attention they received at shows, from there it was a natural progression to start breeding these gorgeous cats. We still get great pleasure in exhibiting our cats all over the country, in both GCCF and TICA shows, also in spending time with the numerous friends we have made through this wonderful hobby.
As spirits play a large part in our lives, not from drinking them, but from where we live, a picturesque village set in the East Lothian countryside with a distillery at it's heart and from Mike's profession as a distiller at the very same distillery, our prefix could be nothing other than "SPIRRITZ". Our prefix is registered with the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF), The International Cat Association (TICA) and The Cat Fanciers Association (CFA).
I am a member of most of the Scottish based cat clubs and a breeder member of both breed clubs, The Maine Coon Cat Club and The Maine Coon Breed Society, also I am a member of the committee of the latter. I am currently working my way through the GCCF Stewarding Scheme with the aim of becoming a qualified Steward.
We aim to breed large healthy kittens with the gentle temperament that Maine Coons are renowned for. All our adult cats are screened annually by echo-cardiogram and are DNA tested for the one mutation known for HCM and SMA.
